Kalamata is one of the most accessible destinations in the Peloponnese, offering multiple transport options for both domestic and international visitors. Whether arriving by air, road, or public transport, reaching this vibrant city on the Messinian Gulf is straightforward and convenient.

Flights to Kalamata

Kalamata International Airport “Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos” (IATA: KLX) serves the city and the wider Messinia region. The airport receives domestic flights from Athens year-round, with a flight time of approximately 45 minutes. During summer, numerous European airlines operate direct international flights from major cities across the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, and other European countries. The airport is approximately 9 km west of the city center and is easily accessible by taxi.

Visitors may also arrive via Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (IATA: ATH), the main gateway to Greece, and continue to Kalamata by road or domestic connecting flight. Araxos Airport (IATA: GPA), located near Patras in the northern Peloponnese, receives select international charter flights during summer and can serve as an alternative entry point, with Kalamata reachable by road in approximately 2.5 hours.

By Road

Kalamata is well connected to the rest of Greece via the Moreas motorway. From Athens, the drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours via the Corinth–Tripoli–Kalamata motorway. KTEL intercity buses operate regular services from Athens (Kifissos bus terminal) to Kalamata, with several departures daily and a journey time of approximately 3.5 hours.
